안녕하세요.
지난 2월 21일 한글학교공동체와 대내외 귀빈 및 손님들을 모시고 한글학교 기금마련을 위한 설날잔치와 문화체험을 성황리에 성공적으로 잘 마쳤습니다. 여러모로 도와주시고 추운 날씨에도 불구하고 어려운 걸음하셔서 자리를 빛내주신 것에 대해 다시 한번 감사의 말씀을 전합니다. 이번 소식지에서는 지난 2월 21일에 있었던 설날잔치 소식과 3월, 4월에 있을 행사에 대해 안내말씀 드리겠습니다.

In the presence of dignitaries from the local, ethnic, Korean communities and the School community, we had a successful Annual Korean New Year Fundraiser and Cultural Experience event. The School community extends its sincere gratitude to all, who attended in spite of the cold weather. This newsletter summarizes the New Year event and announces the events scheduled for March and April.

 한글학교 기금마련 설날잔치 및 문화체험 New Year Fundraiser & Cultural Experience Day

2015년 2월 21일 토요일 오전 9시 30분부터 오후 1시까지 그랜트 파크 고등학교 대강당에서 한글학교 기금마련을 위한 설날행사가 있었습니다. 하퍼수상과 연아마틴 상원위원, 그리고 매니토바 다민족문화부장관이 동영상과 인사말을 통해 한글학교의 번영을 기원해주셨습니다. 또한 다양한 공연과 문화체험코너 그리고 점심식사를 통해 즐거운 시간을 가지셨고 여러단체와 여러분들이 여러 모양으로 기부를 해 주셔서 기금을 마련할 수 있었습니다. 기획 진행을 맡아주신 설날준비위원회, 이사진, 교사진, 자원봉사자들, 음식준비에 도움을 주신 학부형님들 감사합니다.

The School hosted the annual New Year Fundraiser and Cultural Experience Day on February 21, from 9:30am to 1pm at the Senior Gym at Grant Park High School. The Honorable Steven Harper, the Prime Minister, The Honorable Yonah Martin, Senator, and the Honorable Flor Marcelino, Minister of Multiculturalism and Literacy, sent the School community their best wishes through video greetings and in a public address. The guests enjoyed our programs, such as the performances, cultural corners, and the luncheon. The School also raised funds thanks to the contributions from the Korean and other communities and guests in money, in-kind, and other efforts. The New Year Committee and Board members, staff, teachers and volunteers, who planned and executed the event, and parents, who donated food materials and cooking, deserve our sincere appreciation.

백일장 Writing Competition

올해 처음으로 백일장을 시도합니다. 원래는 백일장 당일에 학생들이 글짓기를 하여 제출을 하는 것이 원칙이나 한글학교의 사정상 학생들이 집에서 준비하여 3월21일까지 제출하도록 했습니다. 학생들에게 배부된 원고지에 최종글을 집필할 수 있도록 해 주시기 부탁드립니다. 원고지가 더 필요한 경우 임원진에게 추가로 요청하시거나 홈페이지 < www.koschool.ca-학교소식-학교소식-백일장공고입니다> 에서 다운받아 출력해서 이용할 수 있습니다. 원고지 작성법은 수업 중에 담당교사들이 지도해 주십니다. 학생들이 학부모님들의 도움없이 자율적으로 자유롭게 글을 쓸 수 있도록 해 주시면 좋을 것 같습니다. 백일장 공모내용은 다음과 같습니다.

공모대상: 한글학교 전 학생 (유치1, 2, 한국어1, 기초반 제외)

공모내용: 시, 수필, 소설

주제: 자유주제

분량: 시: 5매 내외        수필: 5~10매 내외          소설: 50매 내외 (200자 원고지 기준)

시상내역: 최우수상 한 명, 으뜸상, 버금상, 노력상, 특별상

심사내용: 독창성, 창의적인 사고, 창의적인 표현, 주제에 대한 이해, 바른 글씨체

마감일: 3월 21일 수업시간

This year, the School introduces a Writing Competition for the first time. Students can prepare texts and submit them on March 21. Please ensure that you and/or your children use the special papers (200-syllable papers) distributed for the final version of the writing. If you need more of these papers, you can request them from the staff, or download them from the School’s website at www.koschool.ca-news-news-Call for Papers for Writing Competition and print them out. Each homeroom teacher will teach the students how to use the special paper. I also would like to advise you not to interfere in the students’ writing, but to let them write freely on their own. The adult students are advised to write their own essays as well. Below are the details for the writing competition.

Participants: All students except for Kindergarten 1, Kindergarten 2, Korean Class 1, and Basic Class

Genre: Poem, essay, novel

Topic: Free topic

Quantity: Poem: Approx. 5 pp.; essay: approx. 5-10 pp.; novel: approx. 50 pp. (200-syllable paper)

Prizes: One Grand Prize, Second Prizes, Third Prizes, Encouragement Prizes, Special Prizes

Evaluation criteria: Originality, creative thinking, creative writing, understanding of the topic chosen, neatness of hand writing

Deadline: March 21

 말하기 대회 & 한국 역사 문화 퀴즈 Speech Contest & Quiz on Korean history and culture

말하기 대회가 4월 25일 오전10시에 소강당에서 있습니다 (장소 변경 가능). 우리 학생들이 그 동안 갈고 닦은 한글실력을 보여줄 수 있도록 부모님들의 각별한 협조 부탁드립니다. 그리고 성인반 학생들도 이 기회를 통해 자신의 실력을 스스로 평가해보는 기회를 갖도록 많은 참여 바랍니다. 자세한 사항은 추후에 공지될 예정입니다.

The Speech Contestwill be held on April 25, at 10 am, at the Junior Gym (Location subject to change). I would like to ask you to help your children to show their Korean language skills at the contest. Adult students will also have an opportunity to test their language skills through this event. Details will be announced in due time.

 퀴즈가말하기대회 틈틈히 있을 예정입니다. 각 반의 수준에 맞는 한국역사와 문화에 대한 문제가 두개씩 준비되어 있습니다. 맞춘 학생들에게는 상품이 주어지니 댁에서 준비를 잘 할 수 있도록 협조 부탁드립니다.

Quizzeson Korean history and culture will be taking place during the interim of the speech contest. Two questions will be prepared for each class. Those, who give the correct answer, will be awarded with a prize. Assistance at home will be much appreciated.
