안녕하세요.

이번 학년도의 마지막 소식지를 쓰게 되는군요. 정신 없이 달리다 보니 이제 이번학년도 막바지에 다다르고 있네요. 마지막까지 잘해서 유종의 미를 거두면 좋겠습니다.

This is the last newsletter for 2013-14. It has been a busy year. The staff, teachers, and volunteers will do their best as usual so that we will have a successful year of 2013-14.

먼저 지난 3월 22일에 있었던 문화체험수업에 대해 간단히 말씀드리겠습니다.

First, I would like to report on the Culture Experience Day held on March 22.

한인 문화회에서 김유현님, 박종수님, 손기봉님, 이성종님, 이종석님이 강사로 오셔서 문화수업을 진행해 주셨습니다. 학생들이 어린아이들부터 성인반까지 절하는 법도 배우고 방패연도 직접 손으로 만들고 붓글씨도 쓰고 윷, 제기, 팽이치기등의 놀이도 하면서 한국 문화의 일부분을 접할 수 있어서 무척 좋아했습니다. 그리고 강사님들이 아주 열성적으로 가르쳐주셔서 매우 즐거운 시간이 되었다면서 반응이 아주 좋았습니다. 또한 현대마트에서 식혜를 직접 만들어주셔서 한국 음식 문화의 후식부분을 선보일 수 있었습니다. 아리랑마트에서도 초코파이를 기부해 주셔서학교에서 준비한 무지개떡과 함께 학생들이 맛있는 간식시간을 가질 수 있었습니다. 자원봉사자들도 각 교사를 도와 학생들이 질서정연하게 움직일 수 있도록 해 줘서 수월하게 행사를 진행할 수 있었습니다. 이렇게 여러분들이 협조를 해 주셨기에 문화체험행사를 아주 성공적으로 잘 마칠 수 있었습니다. 다시 한번 도와주신 모든분들께 심심한 감사의 말씀 전합니다.

Ms. Yuhyun Kim, Mr. Jongsu Park, Mr. Kibong Son, Dr. Sungjong Lee, Mr. Jongseok Lee from the Korean Culture and Heritage Association of Manitoba taught cultural classes. Students of preschool age to adult classes loved to learn the ritual prostration and calligraphy, the making of Korean kites, and to play Yut, a Korean board game, Jegi, Korean hacky sack, Pengi, and spinning tops. The abovementioned instructors taught their classes so enthusiastically and authentic that the students enjoyed each class immensely. The volunteers helped the teachers in assisting the students so that the event ran smoothly. In addition, Hyundai Mart provided home-made Sikhye, a Korean sweet rice drink, which gave the students an opportunity to try traditional Korean dessert culture. During snack time, the students enjoyed Tuk, Korean rice cake, along with Choco-Pie that Arirang Mart donated. The School community sincerely extends its appreciation and gratitude to all who have contributed to this successful event.

다음은 5월과 6월에 있을 행사입니다. Below are the events for May and June.

5월 3일과 10일 10시-1시: 글동산 사진 찍는 날 May 3 and 10, 10am-1pm Photo day for the yearbook “Geuldongsan”

5월 3일과 10일 이틀에 걸쳐서 글동산에 올릴 사진촬영이 있을 예정이오니 자녀분들을 예쁘게 입혀서 보내 주세요.

그리고 학생들이 손으로 쓴 글, 그림일기, 독후감, 짧은 글짓기 등의 작품을 5월 24일까지 각반 담임교사에게 제출해 주시기 부탁드립니다. 에그 디자인 스튜디오에서 파견된 제나님과 한아님이 이번 사진촬영과 작품 스캔을 맡아서 해 주는 관계로 마감일을 넘기면 자녀분들의 사진이나 글을 글동산에 못 올릴 수가 있사오니 마감일을 꼭 지켜주시기 바랍니다.

May 3 and 10 are scheduled for picture days for the yearbook “Geuldongsan.” Jenni and Hana from the Egg Design Studio will be taking pictures of each student and class, including activity classes; so please send your children in their best attire. This goes for adult students as well.

I would also like to kindly ask you to submit your, in case of adult students, or your children’s speech contest texts, picture diaries, short stories, or book reviews in hand writing to the homeroom teacher by May 24. Since the Egg Design Studio is responsible for taking pictures and scanning the works of students, it is imperative to submit them by the due date. Those works that are not submitted by the due date may be excluded from the yearbook. Please keep the deadline.

5월 17일 휴교 May 17 No class

5월 24일: 2차 시험 May 24: Final Exam

5월 24일에 제2차 시험이 있습니다. 이번학년도에 배운 전반적인 내용이 시험에 반영될 예정이오니집에서 많이 도와주시기 부탁드립니다. 5월 31일이 마지막 수업일입니다.

Students will write the final exam on May 24. It will cover all materials taught from September. Please have yourself and/or your children prepared well for the exam. May 31 is the last class.

6월 7일 10시-1시, 카페테리아: 정기총회, 학예회 및 종업식 June 7, 10am-1pm, Cafeteria: General Meeting, Talent Show, and Year-End Ceremony

정기총회 General Meeting

10시에 정기총회가 있습니다. 이번에 임기를 마치신 이사님들의 공석을 채울 새 이사님들을 선출하오니 관심있으신 학부형들께서는 제갈승화 이사장님께 말씀해 주세요.

A General Meeting will take place on June 7, at 10 am in the Junior Gym. New Board Members will be elected; please let Ms. Seunghwa Jegal, the Chair of the Board know if you are interested.

학예회 Talent Show

이 자리를 빌어 이번학년도에 갈고 닦은 특활반 학생들의 실력을 선보이게 됩니다. 미술반과 종이접기반은 학생들의 작품들을 카페테리아에 전시하고 동요반, 케이팝반, 태권도반, 사물놀이반은 발표를 하게 됩니다. 많이들 오셔서 학생들의 재주를 마음껏 즐기시기를 바랍니다.

Students from each activity class will present their work. Arts and Origami class will display students’ works in the Cafeteria and the children’s song, K-pop dance, Taekwondo, and Samulnori class will perform their pieces learned throughout the school year. Please come and enjoy students’ performances and art works.

종업식 Year-End Ceremony

종업식에서는 개근상과 우등상 수여가 있습니다. 지각 결석 조퇴를 한 번도 안 한 학생들에게 개근상이 수여됩니다. 그리고 우등상은 각반 학생들 중에서 우수한 성적을 받은 학생들에게 수여됩니다.기존의 1, 2, 3등의 등수를 매기지 않고 절대평가제도를 도입하여 각 반의 우수한 학생들에게 우등상이 수여됩니다.

There will be awards for complete attendance and excellence. Attendance awards will be given to those students, who did not miss class, nor arrived late, or left early throughout the school year. Students, who excel in their school performance, will receive the Korean School Excellence Award without ranking.

이번년도에 수고해 준 모든 자원봉사자에게 자원봉사증서가 수여됩니다. 자원봉사자들의 열정적인 봉사에 다시 한번 진심으로 감사의 인사 전합니다.

Volunteers will be given Volunteer Certificates for their hard work. The Korean School Community extends their sincere gratitude and appreciation to all volunteers, who have worked so hard this school year.

글동산은 6월중에 우편으로 배송되오니 주소가 바뀐 경우 임원진에게 통보하여 주시기 바랍니다. The Yearbook will be mailed to you in June. Please let the staff know if your mailing address has changed.
