안녕하세요.
올해는 봄이 성큼 다가와서 봄꽃들을 일찍 볼 수 있지 않을까 합니다. 이번 학년도의 마지막 소식지입니다. 우선 지난 3월에 있었던 백일장, 4월에 있었던 말하기대회 소식과 수상자 명단을 올립니다. 그리고 5월, 6월에 있을 행사에 대해 안내말씀 드리겠습니다.

It is spring! We may be able to see spring flowers earlier than usual. This is the last newsletter for this school year. First, I would like to report about the Writing Competition of March and the Speech Contest of April and their winners. Then the events scheduled for May and June will be announced.

 

백일장 수상자 Winners of the Writing Competition

2015년 3월 21일에 백일장이 있었습니다. 여지희, 주희정, 이종석, 이진, 제갈승화님이 저희 한글학교 어린이반, 성인반 학생들이 제출한 15개의 시, 단편소설, 수필을 심사해 주셨습니다. 처음으로 시도했는데 의외로 좋은 작품들이 나와서 심사위원님들도 즐거운 마음이었다고 합니다. 심사위원님들 모두에게 진심으로 감사의 말씀 드립니다. 다음은 수상자들의 명단입니다.

The School held the Writing Competition on March 21 for the first time. Ms. Jihee Yeo, Dr. Heejung Joo, Mr. Jongsuk Lee, Ms. Jin Lee, and Ms. Seunghwa Jegal evaluated 15 works submitted by our students from children’s and adults’ classes as judges. The judges enjoyed reading their works. Their time and efforts are greatly appreciated. Below is the list of the winners.

주제에 대한 이해상 (Understanding of Topic Prize): 한국어4반 함준석, “세계의 축구선수들World Soccer Players”

바른 글씨체상 (Great Penmanship Prize): 성인2반 롤란드 보어, “국제 전통 국궁 대회 International Traditional Archery Festival”

말하기대회 수상자 Winners of the Speech Contest

말하기 대회가 4월 25일 10시부터 12시까지 많은 학생들과 학부형님들을 모시고 성황리에 무사히 잘 끝났습니다. 유치반 학생들을 비롯한 어린이반 학생들 그리고 성인반 학생들의 발표 능력이 뛰어나 보는 이들을 아주 흐뭇하게 했습니다. 그리고 퀴즈를 통해 학생들의 한국 문화와 역사에 대한 이해도와 참여도를 높이는 시도도 해 봤습니다. 심사위원으로 수고해주신 제갈승화 한글학교이사장님, 권기풍 한인회총무님, 정종성 실업인협회장님, 이종석 문화회장님께 다시한번 감사의 말씀을 드립니다. 다음은 이번 2014-15년도의 말하기대회 수상자입니다.

The School held an annual speech contest on April 25 from 10 am to 12 pm with the students in the presence of their parents. It was a great joy to watch the speaking skills of our students from Kindergarten Class to Adult Classes. Through the quiz sessions we also tried to enhance students’ awareness of Korean culture and history. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude and appreciation to the following judges for their support and fair evaluations: Ms. Seunghwa Jegal, President of the Board of the Manitoba Korean School, Mr. Kipung Kwon, Treasurer of the Korean Society, Mr. Jongseong Jeong, President of the Business Association, and Mr. Jongseok Lee, Treasurer of the Korean Heritage Cultural Association. Below is the list of the winners of the speech contest for 2014-15.

글동산 사진 찍는 날 Photo day for the yearbook “Geuldongsan”

5월 2일과 9일 이틀에 걸쳐서 글동산에 올릴 사진촬영이 있을 예정이오니 자녀분들을 예쁘게 입혀서 보내 주세요. 그리고 학생들이 손으로 쓴 글, 그림일기, 독후감, 짧은 글짓기 그리고 그림, 종이접기작품 등의 작품을 5월 9일까지 각 반 담임교사에게 제출해 주시기 부탁드립니다. 에그스튜디오에서 사진촬영과 작품 스캔을 맡아서 해 주는 관계로 마감일을 넘기면 자녀분들의 사진이나 글을 글동산에 못 올릴 수가 있사오니 마감일을 꼭 지켜주시기 바랍니다. 이때 반, 학생이름을 꼭 기입해 주시기 부탁드립니다.

May 2 and 9 are scheduled for picture days for the yearbook “Geuldongsan.” E99 Studio will be responsible for taking pictures of each student and class, including activity classes; so please send your children in their best attire. This goes for adult students as well.

I would also like to kindly ask you to submit your, in case of adult students, or your children’s texts for the speech contest and the writing competition, picture diaries, or book reviews in hand writing, as well as arts and origami works to the homeroom teacher by May 9. Since the E99 Studio is responsible for scanning the works of students, it is imperative to submit them by the due date. Those works that are not submitted by the due date may not be included in the yearbook. Please keep the deadline.

2차 시험 Final Exam

5월 30일에 제2차 시험이 있습니다. 이번학년도에 배운 전반적인 내용이 시험에 반영될 예정이오니 많은 지도편달 부탁드립니다.

Students will write the final exam on May 30. It will cover all materials taught from September. Please have yourself and/or your children prepared well for the exam.

 

정기총회, 학예회 및 종업식 General Meeting, Talent Show, and Year-End Ceremony

정기총회 General Meeting

6월 6일 10시에 소강당에서 정기총회가 있습니다. 이번에 임기를 마치신 이사님들의 공석을 채울 새 이사님들과 학부형회장을 선출하오니 많은 관심 부탁드립니다. 또한 임시결산보고가 있습니다.

A General Meeting will take place on June 6, at 10 am in the Junior Gym. New Directors of the School Board and a new President of the Parents’ Council will be elected. A preliminary financial report will be given.

 

학예회 Talent Show

정기총회 후 이번학년도에 갈고 닦은 특활반 학생들의 실력을 선보이게 됩니다. 미술반과 종이접기반은 학생들의 작품들을 소강당에 전시하고 동요반, 케이팝반, 태권도반, 사물놀이반은 발표를 하게 됩니다. 많이들 오셔서 학생들의 재주를 마음껏 즐기시기를 바랍니다.

After the General Meeting, students from each activity class will present their work. Arts and Origami class will display students’ works in the Jr. Gym and the children’s song, K-pop dance, Taekwondo, and Samulnori class will perform their pieces learned throughout the school year. Please come and enjoy students’ performances and art works.

 

종업식 Year-End Ceremony

종업식에서는 졸업장, 개근상, 우등상, 장학금, 자원봉사증서 수여식이 있습니다. 변재호와 화비니학생에게 졸업장이 수여됩니다. 지각 결석 조퇴를 한 번도 안 한 학생들에게 개근상이 수여됩니다. 그리고 우등상은 각반 학생들 중에서 절대평가에 의해 우수한 성적을 받은 학생들에게 수여됩니다. 또한 졸업생 중 올 해 대학에 입학하는 학생들에게 장학금이 수여됩니다. 장학금신청서는 한글학교, 한인회, 코사랑 웹사이트에서 보실 수 있습니다. 그리고 이번년도에 수고해 준 모든 자원봉사자에게 자원봉사증서가 수여됩니다. 자원봉사자들의 열정적인 봉사에 다시 한번 진심으로 감사의 인사 전합니다.

There will be distribution of the graduation certificate, awards for complete attendance and excellence, scholarship and volunteer certificate. Jaeho Byun and Baenie La Fleur will be graduating. Attendance awards will be given to those students, who did not miss class, nor arrived late, or left early throughout the school year. Students, who excel in their school performance, will receive the Korean School Excellence Award without ranking. Those graduates, who attended the School for six to nine years and enter a post-secondary educational institution this year, will receive a scholarship. See the website of the Korean School, Korean Society, and Kosarang for the application details. Volunteers will be given Volunteer Certificates for their hard work. The Korean School Community extends its sincere gratitude and appreciation to all volunteers.

 

성적표배부 Distribution of report cards

종업식이 끝난 후 성적표 배부가 있으니 각 반 담임교사에게서 받아가시기 바랍니다.

After the end of the ceremony, each homeroom teacher will hand out the students’ report cards.

 

글동산 The Yearbook “Geuldongsan”

글동산은 6월중에 우편으로 배송되오니 주소가 바뀐 경우 임원진에게 통보하여 주시기 바랍니다.

The Yearbook will be mailed to you in June. Please let the staff know if your mailing address has changed.

 

개학식 Opening Ceremony

9월 12일 9시 30분에 소강당에서 개학식이 있습니다. 올해에 보여주신 관심과 협조에 감사드리며 그 때 모두 다시 볼 수 있기를 바랍니다. 내년 (2015-2016) 등록신청서를 첨부하니 5월중에 임원진에게 제출해 주시기 부탁드립니다.

The Opening Ceremony will be taking place on September 12, at 9:30 am in the Junior Gym of Grant Park High School. Thank you for your interest and support that you have shown this year and looking forward to seeing you all there. I would like to kindly ask you to fill out the attached registration form for 2015-2016 and submit it to the staff throughout May.

 

기타사항 Another Event: 문화회 강연회 및 해금공연 Public lecture and Haegum Performance organized by the Korean Heritage Cultural Association

한글학교 문화체험에 2년간 협찬해 준 문화회 주최로 문우일박사님의 “서양역사에서 찾아보는 과학과 철학 이야기”라는 주제로 5월 30일 저녁 7시에 10 Islandshore Blvd 에 있는 Investors Group Building 에서 강연회가 있습니다. 그리고 지난 설날잔치에서 멋진 공연을 보여주셨던 서소선님의 해금연주가 있으니 많은 관심과 참석 부탁드립니다.

The Korean Heritage Cultural Association of Manitoba, whose members taught the School’s Culture Experience Classes, is holding a public lecture by Dr. Wooil Moon, with the title “Science and Philosophy in Western History” on May 20, at 7 pm in the Investors Group Building on 10 Islandshore Blvd. Ms. Sosun Suh, who showed a great performance at the New Year Fundraiser, will perform on her Haegum instrument. I would like to cordially invite you all to this event.
